The registered charity Weltfriedensdienst (WFD) [World Peace Aid] works in the field of development and was founded in 1959 with the aim to commit itself to anti-fascist reconciliation. Today, the WFD supports – as a development aid organization – grass-roots groups in Southern and Western Africa, Palestine and Latin America. Objectives and policies of the charity are defined by its more than 200 members.

Fields of Activity of the WFD abroad

The projects supported by the WFD are initiated by local grass-roots and self-help groups. "Partnership instead of Domination" is considered essential by WFD. The projects address the basic necessities of the population and try to directly improve the living and working conditions of the people. In addition, the WFD sends experts (cooperants) to advise partnership organizations.

Fields of Activity of the WFD in Germany

"If you talk about the South, you cannot keep quiet in the North". The WFD is one of the few organizations working in the field of development that does not only support projects in the so-called developing countries but also tries to trigger development processes and changes in policies in this country through projects in the North and public relations.

bulletWith domestic projects such as Peace Communic@tion, the WFD commits itself to racism and advocates civilian strategies for solving conflicts.
bullet Public relations illustrate the projects and make people aware of the problems of the north-south divide.
bulletA new focal objective of the work in Germany is to arrange solidarity partnerships between the North and the South as a medium of educational work both in and out of schools.
